The Alzheimer’s Association Community Leaders Summit 2025 brought together passionate advocates, researchers, healthcare professionals, and volunteers all united by a common goal: to end Alzheimer’s. Cheer Home Care was honored to attend as a home care provider, with our CEO, Brooke Martindale, attending as a volunteer delegate. This year’s theme, The Power of Us, The Power of Now, underscored the urgency of collaboration in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
A Global Effort to End Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association is at the forefront of global research, supporting over 1,110 projects in 56 countries. With each study, they inch closer to better treatments, early detection, and a cure. The progress made over the last century, from Dr. Alois Alzheimer’s first discovery in 1906, when he discovered an “unusual disease of the cerebral cortex,” to today’s promising breakthroughs of “Plasma Aβ,” which refers to a blood test that measures the level of a protein called amyloid beta (Aβ) in the plasma, reminds us that while there is still work to do, there is also hope.
Advancements in Diagnosis and Treatment
One of the most promising discussions at the summit revolved around early detection. Medical advancements now allow for more accurate diagnosis, including a forthcoming blood test with 97% accuracy. This game-changer will enable families to seek treatment sooner and access critical support.
Researchers are making commendable progress in developing treatments. Three new FDA-approved drugs offer new hope to those living with Alzheimer’s, helping slow cognitive decline and improve quality of life. As one doctor at the summit shared, “I no longer have to look at the floor when someone tells me they are experiencing memory loss. There are now treatments we can offer.”
How You Can Get Involved
By volunteering, fundraising, or participating in research studies like the Alzheimer’s Association’s TrialMatch, you can help drive meaningful progress. TrialMatch is a free, easy-to-use service that connects individuals with and without Alzheimer’s to clinical trials that match their unique profiles. These studies advance treatments, improve care, and ultimately work toward a cure. Learn more about getting involved in a research trial here.
The Power of Hope
Amidst discussions of science and strategy, what resonated most at the summit was a profound sense of hope. The conversations between medical professionals, researchers, advocates, and caregivers continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. As Brooke Martindale reflected, “Because of the incredible work the Alzheimer’s Association does, there is hope. Hopefully, in our lifetime, we will see the first person beat Alzheimer’s.”
Cheer Home Care’s Fight Against Alzheimer’s
