On a spring evening, leaders and supporters gathered at the beautiful Seabird Ocean Resort in Oceanside for a cause that touches many: the fight against Alzheimer’s. Among them were Cheer Home Care CEO Brooke Martindale and Director of Care Michelle Wile, representing our continued commitment to exceptional home care and community partnership. Dressed to the nines, they joined other guests in black-tie attire for an unforgettable evening, surrounded by ocean views and the shared mission of transforming the future for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s.

The Heart Behind the Brilliance Gala

Hosted by the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the Brilliance Gala is more than a fundraiser; it’s a tribute to resilience and research. The evening highlighted the local programs and services, raising awareness and funding to support families and scientific breakthroughs.

The Alzheimer’s Association is a leading voice in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Locally, the San Diego/Imperial Chapter offers 24/7 helplines, support groups, care consultations, and educational programming for caregivers and health professionals alike. Their work empowers families navigating dementia while advancing science through critical research partnerships.

Why Cheer Home Care Supports the Alzheimer’s Association

Living fully and aging with dignity is at the heart of everything we do. Attending and donating to support the Brilliance Gala was a natural extension of our mission. We’re committed to providing high-quality home care services and being part of the larger conversation about senior education, research, and community support.

Honoring Those Who Inspire Progress

The evening’s awards recognized three honorees for their leadership and impact:

  • Maureen McNulty – Hope Award
  • USC Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute – Visionary Award
  • Rema Raman, Ph.D. – Research Champion Honoree

How Cheer Home Care Supports Those Living With Alzheimer’s

Our trained caregivers provide personalized, in-home support that prioritizes safety, connection, and dignity for those with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. From assisting with daily routines and providing memory care support to simply being a familiar, comforting presence, we tailor every care plan to the individual’s needs and progression. Sobering Facts That Call Us to Action

The gala served as a powerful reminder of both the urgency and scale of the Alzheimer’s crisis. A few key takeaways shared by the Alzheimer’s Association included:

  • 1 in 3 older adults die from Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.
  • By age 45, the lifetime risk is 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 10 for men.
  • 4 in 5 Americans would want to know if they had Alzheimer’s before symptoms appear or affect daily activities.

These aren’t just statistics – they represent real people, real families, and real futures!

Ringing for Champagne and a Cure

One of the more memorable moments of the evening came when guests were invited to “ring for champagne,” a bubbly celebration with a poignant message. Behind the clink of glasses was the hope that we’d raise a toast to the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. We were proud to sponsor this moment, bringing a bit more sparkle to the evening.

Looking Ahead With Hope

As we left the gala, the message was clear – there is hope! We’re grateful to the Alzheimer’s Association for hosting such a meaningful event and to all the sponsors who made the evening possible: Keck School of Medicine of Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute, Belmont Village Senior Living, AMN Healthcare, Bristol Myers Squibb, Lilly, and Ranch & Coast Magazine.
