Take Charge of Brain Health – Cheer Home Care Supports Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Each June, Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month serves as a reminder of the importance of brain health and the growing impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. At Cheer Home Care, this month is more than a calendar event; it’s a call to action and a reaffirmation of our commitment to education and support.

In 2025, the campaign’s theme is “Take Charge of Your Brain Health.” This message encourages individuals of all ages to adopt proactive habits that protect cognitive function and promote lifelong brain wellness. It also reminds us of the very real and personal journey many families face when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.

Why This Month Matters

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Association in 2014, Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month was established to initiate a global conversation about brain health, dementia-related conditions, and the importance of early detection and intervention. It also draws attention to the caregivers, healthcare professionals, and family members who walk alongside individuals facing these challenges.

How to Take Charge of Your Brain Health in 2025

While research continues to search for a cure, studies increasingly show that early, intentional lifestyle changes can support brain function and even delay the progression of cognitive decline.

This year’s campaign focuses on five simple ways to begin:

  • Keep Your Mind Active – Read, solve puzzles, learn new skills, or play memory games to strengthen brain function.
  • Move Your Body – Daily physical activity improves circulation and supports long-term brain health.
  • Eat Smart for Your Brain – Follow a balanced diet, such as the Mediterranean or DASH diet, to support memory and cognitive function.
  • Take Care of Your Health – Manage conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression, and find healthy ways to reduce stress.
  • Stay Connected – Maintain strong social ties and engage in purposeful activities to help protect against cognitive decline.

These steps are not only preventative; they support those already living with dementia by improving overall well-being and helping to preserve cognitive function for as long as possible.

Walking Together: Join Us in the Fight

Cheer Home Care is proud to participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a nationwide initiative that raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care, and support services.

This walk is more than a fundraising event; it’s a community gathering in the name of hope! We walk to honor loved ones, support ongoing research, and stand with families affected every day by this disease. If you’d like to get involved, consider joining our team or making a donation; visit our Team Page.

We are honored that our owner, Brooke Martindale, is a member of the Executive Committee for the walk.  You are also always welcome to reach out to her if your family or business would like more information on creating a team.  We are all in this together.

Take the Next Step with Cheer

At Cheer Home Care, we believe that knowledge empowers families and that compassionate care changes lives. This Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, we encourage you to prioritize your own brain health, share resources with others, and reach out if you or a loved one needs support navigating dementia-related care.
